SPECIALISED TREATMENTS & THEIR BENEFITS

NAGAYU CO2 HYDROTHERAPY SPA TREATMENT

Nagayu CO₂ treatment is a Japanese-style spa treatment for dogs that uses warm water infused with a high concentration of carbon dioxide (CO₂). Rather than using shampoos or chemicals, the dissolved CO₂ is absorbed through the skin and is designed to improve circulation while gently cleansing the coat and skin.

How does it work?

When CO₂ dissolves in warm water and comes into contact with the skin, it causes the small blood vessels near the surface to dilate (widen). This increases blood flow to the skin and hair follicles, helping to:

  • Improve circulation
  • Support healthy skin and coat condition
  • Encourage skin cell renewal
  • Help loosen dead skin and excess oils
  • Reduce odours naturally
  • Leave the coat feeling softer and fluffier
  • Promote relaxation and comfort

The treatment is carried out in a bath with a specialised showerhead, while massaging it through the coat.

What are the benefits?

Nagayu Hydrotherapy Treatment can help;

  • Dry, flaky or sensitive skin
  • Mild itching caused by dry skin
  • Excessive shedding
  • Dull coats
  • General skin hygiene
  • Senior dogs who enjoy the soothing warmth and massage
  • Dogs recovering from muddy walks or who need a gentle cleanse between full grooms.

Does it contain shampoo or fragrances?

No. One of the attractions of Nagayu is that it is:

  • Soap-free
  • Fragrance-free
  • Dye-free
  • Non-irritating for most dogs
  • Suitable for puppies and dogs with sensitive skin

Is there scientific evidence?

The use of carbonated baths for improving circulation has been studied in humans, where CO₂ baths have been shown to increase blood flow to the skin and peripheral tissues. Veterinary-specific research on Nagayu itself is more limited, and while many groomers and owners report positive results, claims about treating specific skin diseases should be made cautiously and are best discussed with a veterinarian.

Blueberry Facial Treatment

A Blueberry Facial is a gentle cleansing treatment specially designed for a dog’s face. Despite the name, it isn’t usually made from fresh blueberries; it contains blueberry extract along with natural ingredients that help cleanse, brighten and moisturise the facial area, gentle enough to use around the eyes and muzzle. This service also includes a face massage and nose balm.

What are the benefits?

  • Helps remove tear stains and facial staining
Regular treatments can help lift dirt and debris that contribute to staining around the eyes and mouth.
  • Gently cleanses the face
Removes food residue, saliva staining, eye discharge and general dirt without harsh scrubbing.
  • Moisturises the skin and coat
The Blueberry facial product I use contain ingredients such as aloe vera, oatmeal or chamomile to help soothe and hydrate.
  • Freshens facial odours
Can help eliminate unpleasant smells that may build up around the beard and muzzle.
  • Leaves the coat soft and shiny
The facial area often feels silky and looks brighter after treatment.
  • Provides a relaxing spa experience
The gentle massage involved can be calming and enjoyable for many dogs.

Which dogs benefit most?

Blueberry facials are particularly popular for:

  • Dogs with white or light-coloured coats
  • Breeds prone to tear staining
  • Dogs with beards or moustaches that trap food and moisture
  • Puppies being introduced to grooming
  • Any dog that enjoys a little extra pampering

Is it safe?

The blueberry spa product that I use is:

  • Tearless or low-irritation
  • pH balanced for dogs
  • Free from harsh soaps
  • Suitable for regular use

Please Note: dogs with known allergies or skin conditions and any persistent tear staining or eye irritation should be checked by a veterinarian.

Coat Whitening Treatment

A Coat Whitening Treatment is a specialised grooming treatment designed to brighten and enhance white or light-coloured coats. I use specially formulated shampoos and conditioners to gently remove stains, yellowing and dullness while nourishing the coat and skin.

The treatment doesn’t bleach or dye the coat. Instead, it works by lifting dirt and discolouration and uses optical brighteners or colour-balancing ingredients to enhance the coat’s natural brightness.

Benefits of a Coat Whitening Treatment

  • Brightens white and light-coloured coats
Helps restore the coat’s natural brightness and shine.
  • Reduces yellowing and staining
Can help minimise stains caused by saliva, tears, grass, mud and environmental factors.
  • Enhances coat appearance
Makes whites appear cleaner and brighter and can help lighter colours look more vibrant.
  • Deep cleans the coat
Removes dirt, oils and product build-up that regular shampoos may not fully eliminate.
  • Leaves the coat soft and manageable
Conditioning ingredients that help detangle and moisturise.
  • Improves overall coat shine
Gives the coat a fresh, healthy-looking finish.

Which dogs benefit most?

Coat whitening treatments are ideal for:

  • White-coated breeds such as the West Highland White Terrier, Bichon Frise and Maltese
  • Dogs with cream, silver or light-coloured coats
  • Dogs prone to tear, beard or paw staining
  • Show dogs or dogs being groomed for special occasions
  • Any dog whose coat has become dull or discoloured over time

Is it safe?

Professional coat whitening products are formulated specifically for dogs and are designed to:

  • Be gentle on the skin
  • Avoid harsh bleaching agents
  • Maintain the coat’s natural texture and condition

As with any grooming product, dogs with sensitive skin or allergies may require a patch test or a gentler alternative

De-Shedding Mud Treatment

A De-shedding Mud Treatment is a luxurious spa treatment designed to help loosen and remove dead undercoat while nourishing the skin and coat. The treatment uses a warm mineral-rich mud or clay mask containing ingredients such as natural clays, minerals, botanical extracts and moisturising oils.

The mud is worked through the coat and left on for a short period before being rinsed out, helping to release loose hair and make the coat easier to brush and de-shed.

Benefits of a De-shedding Mud Treatment

  • Reduces shedding
Helps loosen and remove dead undercoat, reducing the amount of hair shed around the home.
  • Deep cleans the coat and skin
Draws out dirt, excess oils and impurities while gently cleansing.
  • Moisturises dry skin
Contains hydrating ingredients that soothe and nourish the skin.
  • Improves coat condition
Leaves the coat softer, shinier and easier to manage.
  • Helps prevent matting
By removing loose undercoat, the coat is less likely to become compacted or tangled.
  • Promotes healthy skin
Mineral-rich ingredients can help maintain the skin’s natural moisture balance.
  • Provides a relaxing spa experience
The warm mud and massage are soothing and enjoyable for many dogs.

Which dogs benefit most?

De-shedding mud treatments are particularly beneficial for:

  • Double-coated breeds such as the Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, Siberian Husky and Labrador Retriever
  • Dogs that shed heavily year-round
  • Dogs going through seasonal coat changes
  • Dogs with dry or dull coats
  • Owners wanting to reduce the amount of loose hair at home

Is it safe?

Professional de-shedding mud treatments are:

  • Formulated specifically for dogs
  • Gentle on the skin
  • Free from harsh chemicals
  • Suitable for regular grooming appointments

Dogs with sensitive skin or existing skin conditions may require a more tailored treatment, and any ongoing skin issues should be discussed with a veterinarian
